Tuesday Push is back from Holidays

29 Sep 2009 In: Information, Tuesday Push

Before taking a few weeks off for the summer, we asked users to fill out a survey to get some feedback and hopefully improve the Tuesday Push as a result. Thank you to everyone for answering the questions in the survey and providing comments and suggestions at the end.

A large portion of those taking part in the Tuesday Push, over 60% spent up to 3 hours looking over the service to be pushed and writing about it. Most users, over 90% learned about each Tuesday Push from Twitter, followed by the Blog or RSS feed. We’ll keep the @tuesdaypush twitter account alive then.

Now that Tuesday Push is back, the most significant change is that Pushes are now monthly instead of fortnightly as before. This idea was floating around for a while and it was reinforced by a number of similar comments in the survey. You might also notice we have a new domain of push.ie replacing tuesdaypush.com. Theres a new theme for the blog on the way too so watch out for that.

This monthly approach will provide us with the time to sort out the calendar of those to be pushed several months in advance and gives bloggers plenty of time to find out who is to be pushed, check out their service and write about it each month.

Over 60% wanted to know much more about a product or service before pushing it. For those that are Pushed in the future some more information will be asked of you. Who are your target customers, what is your revenue model? What benefit did your product or service get from receiving a Push?

If you are getting your product or service pushed, make sure it is something that is accessible to the public so users can access all areas. If your service requires users to create an account, perhaps have a dummy account pre-made to save people the time of creating yet another account and going through the steps of email verification.

This is your opportunity to show off your application to people who will use your application and write about it, so include all the detail you can when describing your application.

WhoseView.ie is a social review based website that allows all to rant and rave on local services and products! Currently in open beta

Its a review website boasts over 10 categories Restaurants, Food & Drink, Bars & Nightlife, Shopping & Fashion, Health & Beauty, Arts & Culture, Hotels & Travel, Local & Home Services, Recreation and Automotive. Each of these categories has a dozen sub categories too.

The search facility has a useful predictive search and the entire interface is fast and clean. The locations of the top 5 results of a search appear on the Google map to the right of the results.

The reviews are broken down into two main categories, Raves and Rants and are very detailed. A review contains a rating out of 5 stars, the reviewers name, how long ago the review was made and a snippet of the review. Each location has a rating out of the total number for their category. Reviews can be filtered by area and sorted by a number of headings. The website has some excellent videos on helping people get started with searching, reviewing and connecting.

www.whoseview.ie was founded by Helen McCarthy and Michael McFionbhear in partnership with Lightbox Multimedia. They are also supported by Enterprise Ireland. The site was launched on July 17th 2009 with 38,000 Dublin businesses and close to 600 customer reviews. The goal is to concentrate on city locations, moving to Galway and Cork in September, before launching into the UK in early 2010.

Todays Tuesday Push is FineTuna

Todays Tuesday Push is FineTuna at http://www.finetuna.com

finetuna logo

FineTuna is a web application from Spoilt Child Design that was created to solve a pain point for many developers and doodlers out there: it allows you to share an image with someone and they can give commentary about the image. Every commentary page for the image has a short and unique web address and so it can be emailed, IMd, Twittered and so forth and anyone can leave feedback for the image. It’s Tinyurl for image feedback.

Ideal for both a designer and their client, as well as someone sharing their latest Brian Cowen photoshop image. It’s proved popular. In the year since FineTuna was launched over 25,000 images have been uploaded, shared and reviewed with more than 9 gigs uploaded. The interface is pretty much a single page with instructions guiding you on that same page. It’s an ideal solution for those that make a few images now and then and want some feedback. However for design
professionals there could be an option in FineTuna for mass uploads and mass page creations as a designer is going to be offering more than one image or design style to a client. This could be reserved for a premium version and perhaps this version too could have a way for a client to actually select parts of an image and leave notes on those parts.

All in all, FineTuna solves that pernickity issue that many of us have encountered and does it in a simple and smart way. What are your views on FineTuna?

Decisions for Heroes is the focus of next weeks Tuesday Push on May 19th

In their own words:

Decisions For Heroes is a web application that saves lives. We do this by helping rescue teams record and analyse their rescue operations. Teams like Mountain Rescue, Coast Guard, Lifeboats, and other Search & Rescue units use our service to document their incidents, techniques, casualty care, and training exercises, building up a profile of each of their rescuers and the geographical area they respond to.

Do you know of any web apps or services in Ireland that deserves a Push?

About this blog
